Charlton Cup Day 2017 certainly ‘ had it all ‘. Bubbles, fund raising, frocks and hats, a beautiful day, great course setup, amazing displays of horsemanship and best of all a local win in the Charlton and District Community Bank Pacing Cup.
Thanks to our sponsor St. John Of God Bendigo Hospital the day kicked off with a very successful Bubbles In The Bush – a fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer. An 11am start did not deter the girls from frocking up to support this cause and the club was thrilled to get to the target of 100 women who all gave generously. We hope that the Women’s Cancer Foundation will be thrilled with the $2729.00 raised in a short hour and a half.
Thanks must go to Shirley Lechmere from St. John Of God who attended the event giving an informative speech on the issues surrounding this disease and the great service that St. John Of God Bendigo Hospital provide for the Bendigo and regional community. Thanks also to Larnie Salathiel representing the Women’s Cancer Foundation who spoke of her role as an ambassador and how the Harness Racing Industry has nationally banded together to support this through the Teal Month of February campaign.
And finally to our special harness racing guest champion driver Kerryn Manning who gave us all in insight into her incredible achievements over the years and gave many an appreciation of the many challenges facing drivers every day. We are happy to see that she is back driving after her recent fall and we wish her safe travels from now on!
